Gonzalo Duran currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Bronx County Conservative Party and holds the position of District Leader for the 79th Assembly District.
A proud lifelong resident of the Bronx, Duran’s journey is marked by a commitment to service and community engagement. Raised by his Salvadoran mother, he embraced an active role in the community from a young age, balancing work in a supermarket with volunteering at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and participating in his school’s wrestling team. Following high school, Duran briefly left the Bronx to honorably serve in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant and completing a tour in Iraq.
Upon returning home, Duran faced challenges in employment, housing, and readjustment. Despite these hurdles, he enrolled at Fordham University with aspirations of a medical career. However, recognizing the struggles faced by his fellow veterans, he redirected his path toward advocacy. Co-founding Devil Dog USA Incorporated with fellow Fordham students, the organization addresses issues such as student veteran homelessness, housing initiatives, recreational programs, community civic engagement, and youth scholarship programs, among numerous other initiatives.
Politically active for over eight years, Duran transitioned to the forefront during his second City Council campaign in 2023, securing a place in the general election after joining the Conservative Party. Elected as District Leader, he significantly bolstered party enrollment, assessed officials for vacant positions, organized impactful events, and forged new community connections. His noteworthy contributions led to his appointment as Vice Chairman of the Bronx County Conservative Party within six months of joining.
Duran now sets his sights on a larger stage, announcing his candidacy as the Bronx County Conservative Party’s primary endorsement for Congressional District New York 15. Armed with knowledge, experience, and determination, he aims to address not only the challenges facing New York City’s streets but also to reform a political system that he believes is contributing to its deterioration.
