John Ricottone represents a form of leadership that is built through years of service, not shaped by politics.
A resident of his district for over thirty years, his connection to the community is rooted in lived experience, consistent involvement, and a clear understanding of the challenges families face every day. His work has not been driven by a campaign, but by a long-standing commitment to improving the lives of those around him.
That commitment is reflected in his record.
Ricottone served as First Vice President of the Community Education Council from 2023 to 2025, where he passed multiple resolutions addressing issues that directly impact students and families. When school safety agents were abruptly removed just days before entering the academy, he took immediate action. He contacted elected officials, organized a press conference, and helped bring attention to the issue. Within weeks, those positions were restored. That outcome was real, measurable, and directly benefited the community.
He also fought for expanded afterschool funding, contributing to increased investment at both the city and state level. His advocacy helped secure resources for schools that needed them most, creating safer environments and more opportunities for students.
Now serving as President of the Community Education Council, he continues to lead with purpose. Under his leadership, additional resolutions have been passed addressing bullying, special education, and continued after school support. These efforts reflect a focus on practical solutions and meaningful outcomes.
Beyond education, Ricottone brings over twenty years of service with the New York City Police Department, retiring in August 2025. That experience carries weight. It reflects discipline, accountability, and a deep understanding of public safety from direct experience in the field.

He has spent decades working with the people of New York City in real time, addressing issues as they happen and understanding the realities that many communities are facing.
What stands out most is that his service has never depended on holding elected office. Even before running, he has been actively helping constituents resolve issues both within and beyond his district. That willingness to act without recognition speaks to a leadership style rooted in responsibility.
His priorities are clear and aligned with the concerns of residents.
Public safety remains a central issue. Families are increasingly concerned about youth violence, and Ricottone recognizes the urgency of addressing it through both enforcement and prevention. He supports increased opportunities for young people through structured programs, including expanded sports and community activities.
Affordability is another major concern. With rising costs placing pressure on working families, he is focused on policies that make housing and everyday living more manageable. He understands that financial strain is not theoretical. It is something families experience daily.
Quality of life is equally important. From unregulated street activity affecting local businesses to the overall condition of neighborhood spaces, he has seen how unresolved issues can impact entire communities. He is committed to restoring order, cleanliness, and accountability in the district.
His approach to leadership emphasizes collaboration. Through his work in community organizations and leadership roles, he has demonstrated the ability to bring people together, respect different perspectives, and work toward shared goals.
He has also supported numerous candidates and initiatives over the years, contributing time, effort, and resources without seeking personal recognition. That reflects a belief in teamwork and collective progress.
When it comes to integrity, his standard is clear. After twenty years in law enforcement and leadership in education, he operates with a strong sense of duty and accountability. He understands pressure and conflict, and he has demonstrated the ability to stand firm in doing what is right for families and the community.
His vision for the district is straightforward. A community where residents feel safe. Where quality of life is improved. Where families can rely on leadership that listens and delivers results. A district that people are proud to call home.
This is a candidacy built on action, not promises.
For those reasons, and with a clear understanding of what is at stake, I am proud to offer my full endorsement.
Gonzalo Duran endorses John Ricottone for New York State Assembly District 47.
I encourage every voter to take the time to learn about this race, engage with the issues that matter most to their families, and make their voice heard at the ballot box. The future of our communities depends on informed, active participation, and this election is an opportunity to move New York in a stronger, safer, and more accountable direction.
